A Report on Promotion & Publicity undertaken at Five Villages of Pune Region

As reported, IGNOU Regional Centre, Pune has identified two villages; Aher Chincholi and Charhata in Beed District and three villages; Revgaon, Waghurul and Gondegaon in Jalna District of Pune region, Maharashtra for the promotion and publicity of IGNOU Programmes for the academic session July 2015. These villages are located at a distance of about 10 - 12 KM from IGNOU Study Centres; 1639: Beed and 16137: Jalna. Profile of these villages is enclosed / attached.

The undersigned along with Dr Mrs Kalpana Gupte, Deputy Director visited these villages from 7th to 9th of July 2015 to promote and publicise IGNOU Programmes. Though Coordinators of IGNOU Study Centres at Study Centres 16139 and 16137 had visited these villages on earlier occasion also to publicise IGNOU Programmes, during our visit the following activities were undertaken.

1. Visiting the Sarpanch and other members of Village Panchayat to acquaint them with IGNOU; its functioning;, its responsibility towards educating the disadvantaged sections of the society, living in the rural, remote, tribal and geographically unfavorable areas,
2. Meeting the villagers, distribution of information leaflets and explaining them about IGNOU Programmes, its flexibility in programme completion, the quality and standards etc.,
3. Pasting of posters in the villages at the prominent places,
4. Staging street plays in Marathi with the help of learners of IGNOU Study Centres at Beed and Jalna,
5. Addressing the village school children of 10+2 standards on IGNOU and its Programmes.

There was a good response from the Sarpanch and members of the Village Panchayat. The villagers too have shown interest in knowing about IGNOU and its Programmes. They participated in large numbers in the public meetings organized.

Few photographs taken on promotion drive in the villages during 7th to 9th July 2015 are enclosed / attached for information.

We propose to put on records our appreciation and gratefulness to the Coordinators and functionaries of IGNOU Study Centres; 1639: Beed and 16137: Jalna for the help and support extended during our visit to these villages for promotion and publicity of IGNOU Programmes.

It is proposed to undertake such activities in future also in the subsequent sessions and also at other villages of Pune region, where there is poor enrollment.
