This Programme is developed with the financial support of Department of Land Resources, Ministry of Rural Development, Govt of India.
Objectives:
The main objective of the Diploma in Watershed Management Programme is capacity building and human resource development in order to realise the desired objectives of watershed development projects by their effective and efficient planning and implementation. However, the specific objectives of the programme are as under:
- Introduce the principles of the watershed management approach and the value of working at a watershed;
- Generate awareness about the importance of sustainable development and maintenance of natural resources;
- Delineate different techniques for accessing and predicting physical, chemical and socio-economic conditions with in a watershed including water quality;
- Mobilisation and capacity building of rural youth, women and landless;
- Develop skills for development of small scale irrigation and water supply structures for human being and livestock through water and soil conservation strategies; and
- Develop human resource in watershed development and management.
Fee Concession
The fee concession is available to the following category of students:
· All the candidates from the rural areas shall be entitled for fifty percent fee concession subject to the production of domicile certificates.
· Students from urban areas living below poverty line may also be given fifty percent fee concession subject to production of income certificate
Job Opportunities
The Diploma holders may be able to serve different organisations like Government and Non Governmental Organisations (NGOs) dealing with watershed projects, Urban Housing Boards, Private Real Estate Builders, Soil Conservation Departments and Ground Water Boards as Soil Conservation and Agriculture/ Horticulture Inspectors, Agro-forestry Surveyors, Water Harvesting Technicians/ Supervisors, Livestock Assistants. There is an ample scope for setting up Self Entrepreneurship Units.
Student Support Activities
Learning Material: The printed study material is sent to the registered students at home by post.
Audio-visual learning aids: The learning package also contains audio and video cassettes and CDs which have been produced by the University. A video programme is usually of 25-30 minutes duration. These programmes can be heard/viewed at the study centre during specific sessions, or purchased for use at home.
Counselling: Counselling sessions are held according to a schedule drawn up by the study centre coordinator, usually during weekends.
TV counselling and Tele-conferencing: Through Gyan Darshan Channels and EduSat. One Gyan Darshan channel is available on DTH platform.
Radio Counselling: Through phone-in programmes on AIR and Gyan Vani.
*1 credit = 30 hours of student’s study time
